Building The Town Hall And The Widening Of Narrow Bridge Street

This lecture is really two stories, which cover the period from 1874 (the incorporation of Peterborough) to 1937 when the northern part of Bridge Street was reconstructed. It covers the lack of office accommodation for Council employees and the chaos Narrow Bridge Street was encountering with the increase in traffic due to the introduction of motorised vehicles. The photographs show how the Town Hall was built, the demolition of the eastern side of Bridge Street and the discovery of the old Monastic fortifications.
